Weekly Health Tip: Avocado Oil

Produce-330

Now that I’ve moved up to the country I have become a Costco shopper (yes!). Costco has amazing healthy products like organic coconut oil, almonds, organic whole chickens, hemp seeds, flax seeds, chia seeds, etc. But sometimes they will suddenly stop selling an item!

The word on the street is that grapeseed oil is no longer available.

I always tell my clients that grapeseed oil is the best to cook with because of its high burning temperature. You should never let oils burn because doing so destabilizes the oil; increasing our exposure to free radicals, which can increase risk of cancer.

What’s the alternative? Avocado oil! It has an extremely high burning temperature of 500F so it’s safe to cook with.

If you’re a Costco shopper (or not), pick up a bottle of avocado oil for cooking! You can also use it to make homemade salad dressings or drizzle on pasta as it’s considered a healthy fat.

    Hi Lauren
Can it replace oil in baking?

Hi Joanne, I’ve never tried it, but I don’t see why not! Coconut oil is also amazing for baking and also has a high smoke point.
