A big part of my health philosophy as a nutritionist is that I don’t believe in diets or quick fixes; I believe in living a healthy lifestyle. What does that mean to me? It’s all about finding a healthy balance when it comes to food, eating and exercise (I always say to my clients: it’s what you do 80% of the time that I care about), feeling and looking your best, learning about healthy choices and cooking healthy meals from scratch using fresh, high quality ingredients.
Cooking your own meals from scratch means you control what goes into it such as, healthy oils and carbohydrates, natural sweeteners and organic meat and produce (especially for the Dirty Dozen). When you purchase packaged meals or rely on take-out you don’t have control over any of that and most of the big food companies and restaurants don’t use high quality, healthy ingredients in their meals. They often use unhealthy vegetable oils, non-organic ingredients and added preservatives.
For those of you who are busy and don’t enjoy cooking, don’t worry, like everything today, there’s an app for that. A recent review listed the four best recipe apps that will help you elevate your kitchen skills and streamline grocery shopping. Click here to read the review, and check out their four top rated recipe apps: All Recipes, Paprika Recipe Manager, Big Oven and Food Network In the Kitchen. The apps may not always include the healthiest ingredient choices, but that’s where my blog and other health resources come into play.
I recently wrote a post about the importance of meal planning as part of living a healthy lifestyle, which is the first step before cooking and grocery shopping. Check out my recent blog post, Tips to Successful Meal Planning, download your favourite recipe app and start cooking and living a healthy lifestyle today!
