Organic Food Delivery

I recently bought a coupon from Fab Find for Mama Earth Organics, which is a company that delivers organic food to your doorstep. The coupon cost $25, which got us $55 worth of organic food.

The experience was great and is such a good option if you’ve decided to make the switch to organic food. While most grocery stores have an organic food section they don’t always have the best selection (variety & quality). Mama Earth has a huge list of produce and other food to choose from, and the quality is excellent.

They have a few different basket size options: Single, Couple, Family, etc. I went with the Couple’s basket for $35 and spent an extra $2 to customize some of the items. Customizing was the only tricky part of the process. For example, when I added Shitake mushrooms (a more expensive item) my number of apples went from 5 to 1, so you have to be mindful of that. Because I was entitled to $55 worth of food with our coupon, I also added organic crackers (Mary’s Organic Crackers – Original flavour. They are Kosher, Vegan, Wheat and Gluten-Free and taste sooo good!), pearl barley, cane sugar and organic walnut raisin bread from St. Johns Bakery in Toronto.

The basket arrived yesterday and it was so easy! The guy brought it right to our door and will pick up the empty basket next week, which is when he would normally drop off the new basket. We actually opted out of another basket for now because we wanted to see how the whole process went. Also, we are a 5 minute walk from St. Lawrence market, and are interested to see if we can get similar items for the same price. However, you can’t beat the convenience of Mama Earth though, and the delivery is free (with the exception of a one-time $10 sign-up fee).

I did quite a bit of research online and compared Mama Earth with some other organic food delivery companies. Overall, their price is competitive, but what I like about Mama Earth is you can start or stop your delivery at anytime. Other companies require more of a commitment.

As you know I’m a big advocate of organic produce, and I think 2 weeks worth of organic fruit & veggies delivered to your front door for $37 is amazing. I would encourage you to give it a try. Its fun to customize your basket and it was kind of exciting when it arrived. I made sure to plan a few meals for the week, and based my basket selects on what I needed for my recipes.

Overall, it was a great experience and I would definitely do this again.

What are your thoughts on organic food delivery services? Would you give this a try? Do you find it frustrating to buy organic produce from the grocery store?
