Hasta Luego Medellin

Our time in Medellin is coming to an end; we head back to Toronto tomorrow. We’ve had an amazing time in the city; a great mix of work, relaxing and being active.

I love this city because it’s so conducive to living a healthy lifestyle. The weather is beautiful 365 days of the year. It’s perfectly moderate; about 17 degrees in the morning & evening (perfect jogging weather!) and about 25 degrees during the day. There’s never an excuse to not get outside and do something active.

On Sundays they close down the main road in the city, and everyone comes out with friends & family to jog, ride their bikes or walk their dogs.

While they do have their fair share of deep-fried street food available (if you come visit the empanadas & cheese sticks with jam are a must-try) they also sell fresh cut fruit on every corner; papaya, mango, bananas and fresh-squeezed fruit & vegetable juice. We stumbled across a great farmer’s market on our Sunday jog.

They also make it easy to stock your fridge with healthy choices for the week. When you’re waiting at a light; farmers will walk by your car selling their fresh produce; strawberries, avocado and local, tropical fruits. It doesn’t get much easier than that & it’s cheaper than buying it in the grocery stores!

We also had access to an amazing country club in the heart of the city complete with pools, and tennis & squash courts. It’s a great option for staying active or relaxing in the heart of the city.

I’m going to miss this city (and the coffee), but we’ll be back!
