I woke up early again this morning (I’m really looking forward to sleeping in a bit tomorrow morning!) and went down to the gym in our building for a workout. I did half an hour of cardio and some push-ups & abs. I split up my 30 minutes of cardio between the treadmill and the bike. I find this makes it easier to tackle 30 minutes because it kind of tricks your mind into thinking it’s not that long. Also, I love spinning, but I can’t always make it to the early Goodlife classes. Instead, I use a regular exercise bike, set up a good playlist on my Ipod and simulate my own spinning class! I can pick my own music and I usually use the chorus as a guideline. Whenever the chorus hits, I turn up the incline and do a climb. It’s a great alternative and really spikes your heart rate.
I had a clementine before the gym, which was enough this morning because I had some popcorn around 9pm last night. We always buy the light popcorn, which is a really good healthy snack option (if you don’t add extra salt & butter). Half a bag of light popcorn is only about 130 calories and it’s really high in fibre and low in fat.
This is the last day of my detox, and even though it’s only been 4 days I feel really good. Technically I’m allowed to have coffee, alcohol and refined sugar again starting tomorrow. Honestly, I’m really excited for my morning coffee, but I’m going to try and have smaller cups going forward. I’m also looking forward to a glass of wine tomorrow night, but I’ve really enjoyed feeling energetic during the day, so even though I’m going out with the girls I’m going to stick to a plan of only a couple drinks. And as for sweets; our house is full of chocolate from Christmas, but I’m going to try and hold off on those during the weekdays, and allow myself a refined sugar treat only on the weekend. Going a few days without toxins, and feeling better as a result is great motivation to stay on the healthy track. I am a firm believer in allowing yourself to indulge every so often, but keep it under control and you won’t end up feeling guilty or suffer the side effects of too much congesting & toxic food. As one of my girlfriends says, “If you indulge, you bulge!”
Ok, so here’s my final detox day diet!
Breakfast: Regular instant oatmeal with 1 banana, a spoonful of wheat germ & 1 tsp of honey
Snack: 1 clementine
Lunch: Blue Menu vegetarian chilli (this is a really easy healthy lunch option) with 1 Ryvita Rye & Oat Bran cracker
Mid-afternoon snack: 1 clementine and 1 apple
Pre-dinner snack: Cheddar rice crackers with spicy hummus and a few almonds
Dinner: Sushi date with my hubby without white wine (this is going to be hard…sushi pairs so well with white wine!)
Thanks for following me on my detox; I would recommend it to anyone who needs a fresh start, and some motivation to change their lifestyle starting in 2011.
Good Morning my love,
Just read your blog. Before reading it, I requested a fresh ground cup of coffee. I took a few sips and decided I really only drink coffee out of habit. Put the coffee down and I am now drinking green tea.It is just OK. Loved reading your blog. It was like having you in the kitchen with me. I am going to try and follow your detox. I will be easy except for the cosmos. I have done it before and the first day is the hardest. Our fridge is full of yogurt. I put my bran on it everyday. Do I really have to drink soy milk? I have an egg everyday. Is this OK? loves xoxoxo
